The Shanghai Typhoon Institute (here after referred to as STI), established in 1978 under the auspices of the China Meteorological Administration, serves as the sole national-level public welfare research institution in China dedicated to tropical cyclone research. The development goals and functional positioning of STI include conducting fundamental and applied research in tropical cyclones, marine meteorology, numerical weather prediction, and other related fields. The institute is committed to enhancing China's research capabilities and facilitating the transition from research to operational practices in tropical cyclones and associated disciplines, with the aim of establishing itself as a nationally recognized research institution characterized by distinctive professional expertise, domestic leadership, and international influence.

I. Positions and Application Requirements
Position 1: AI-based Technology Development for Tropical Cyclone Monitoring, Forecasting, and Services
Specific Work Requirements: Design deep learning models to conduct research on the position, track, intensity, structure, or associated rainfall, wind, and disasters of tropical cyclones, and improve the accuracy of monitoring, forecasting, and services for tropical cyclones.
Application Requirements
1. Have obtained or will obtain a doctoral degree in atmospheric science, applied mathematics, or information technology from domestic or international universities and research institutions before reporting for duty.
2. Experience in typhoon monitoring, forecasting, disaster research, numerical forecasting, or application of deep learning algorithms is preferred. Candidates with dual backgrounds in atmospheric science theory and artificial intelligence technology will be given priority.
3. Possess strong computer programming skills, familiarity with high-performance computing environments, and proficiency in at least one programming language (such as Python, MATLAB), and familiarity with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow.
4. Generally, no older than 35 years old (born after January 1, 1990), possess a good academic background and strong potential for scientific research innovation, independent research ability, good team spirit, and be in good physical and mental health.
Position 2: Tropical Cyclone Observation Experiments and Fine-scale Structure Research
Specific Work Requirements: Participate in typhoon scientific experiments; conduct research on the analysis of typhoon fine-scale structures and related algorithms based on multi-source observational data; explore quality control techniques for observations under typhoon conditions, and develop new observation technologies and equipment.
Application Requirements:
1. Have obtained or will obtain a doctoral degree in meteorology or atmospheric science from domestic or international universities and research institutions before reporting for duty.
2. Experience in remote sensing and airborne equipment data processing and observational research is preferred. Candidates with a background in cloud microphysics, boundary layer, and mesoscale meteorology will be given priority.
3. Possess strong computer programming skills, familiarity with high-performance computing environments, and proficiency in at least one of the following computational statistical plotting tools: NCL, Python, MATLAB.

Position 3: Mechanisms and Predictability of Extreme Rainfall and Wind Events in Landfalling Tropical Cyclones
Specific Work Requirements: Conduct research on the characteristics and causes of extreme rainfall and wind events in landfalling tropical cyclones under the background of accelerated climate warming, analyze the forecast error characteristics of extreme events, conduct attribution analysis, understand predictability, and develop methods for assessing forecast credibility.
Application Requirements:
1. Have obtained or will obtain a doctoral degree in meteorology or ocean science from domestic or international universities and research institutions before reporting for duty.
2. Experience in research on the mechanisms and predictability of tropical cyclones is preferred.
3. Possess strong computer programming skills, familiarity with high-performance computing environments, and proficiency in commonly used meteorological computing, statistical, and plotting tools (such as Python, MATLAB, R, NCL).

Position 4: Numerical Weather Prediction Technology Research
Specific Work Requirements: Conduct key technology research on numerical weather prediction to improve the performance of forecasts for hazardous weather events such as tropical cyclones and severe convection within the Shanghai Weather And Risk Model System (SWARMS).
Application Requirements:
1. Have obtained or will obtain a doctoral degree in atmospheric science from domestic or international universities and research institutions before reporting for duty.
2. Experience in the development and application of common numerical weather prediction models or data assimilation platforms is required. Candidates with experience in simulating and researching the mechanisms of hazardous weather events such as tropical cyclones, severe convection, and fog will be given priority.
3. Possess strong computer programming skills, familiarity with high-performance computing environments, and proficiency in at least one of the following computational statistical plotting tools: Python, MATLAB, R, NCL.

Position 5: Monitoring and Forecasting Technology Research of Extreme Precipitation in Tropical Cyclones
Specific Work Requirements: Conduct research on monitoring, diagnostic analysis, and development of objective forecasting techniques for extreme precipitation in tropical cyclones.

1. Have obtained or will obtain a doctoral degree in atmospheric science from domestic or international universities and research institutions before reporting for duty.
2. Experience in monitoring, analysis, simulation, and research on the mechanisms of hazardous weather events such as tropical cyclones and heavy rainfall is preferred.
3. Possess strong computer programming skills, familiarity with high-performance computing environments, and proficiency in at least one of the following computational statistical plotting tools: Python, MATLAB, R, NCL.

Position 6: Analysis and Intelligent Forecasting Technology Research of Tropical Cyclone Boundary Layer Microscale Wind Fields
Specific Work Requirements: Conduct research on the characteristics and impact mechanisms of tropical cyclone boundary layer microscale wind fields under complex terrain conditions such as urban, mountainous, and coastal areas, and develop intelligent forecasting techniques for these wind fields using artificial intelligence methods.
Application Requirements:
1. Have obtained or will obtain a doctoral degree in meteorology, oceanography, fluid mechanics, civil engineering, computer science, or related fields from domestic or international universities and research institutions before reporting for duty.
2. Experience in research on tropical cyclone boundary layer microscale wind fields under complex terrain conditions, and experience in coupled modeling at meso-micro scales is preferred.
3. Possess strong computer programming skills and experience in artificial intelligence development or application, familiarity with high-performance computing environments, and proficiency in at least one of the following computational statistical plotting tools: Python, MATLAB, NCL.

Position 7: Catastrophe Risk Assessment Technology Research of Tropical Cyclones under Climate Change
Specific Work Requirements: Conduct research on catastrophe risk modeling and assessment of tropical cyclones under future climate change scenarios.
Application Requirements:
1. Have obtained or will obtain a doctoral degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, geography, hydrology, or related fields from domestic or international universities and research institutions before reporting for duty.
2. Experience in catastrophe risk modeling and assessment of climate change impacts is preferred. Candidates with a background in tropical cyclone simulation or interdisciplinary research in meteorology and geography will be given priority.
3. Possess strong computer programming skills, familiarity with high-performance computing environments, and proficiency in at least one of the following computational statistical plotting tools: Fortran, NCL, Python, MATLAB, ArcGIS.

Position 8: Multi-Physics Coupling Simulation and Disaster Mechanism Research of Wind-Rain-Wave-Surge in Tropical Cyclones
Specific Work Requirements: Conduct research on multi-physics coupling simulation of wind, rain, waves, and storm surges in tropical cyclones, and explore the disaster mechanisms targeting specific industries such as construction, energy, transportation, and military.
Application Requirements:
1. Have obtained or will obtain a doctoral degree in meteorology, oceanography, fluid mechanics, civil engineering, or related fields from domestic or international universities and research institutions before reporting for duty.
2. Experience in multi-physics coupling simulation of tropical cyclones is preferred. Candidates with experience in using experimental equipment such as wind tunnels, wave tanks, and cloud chambers will be given priority.
3. Possess strong computer programming skills, familiarity with high-performance computing environments, and proficiency in at least one of the following computational statistical plotting tools: Python, MATLAB, NCL.

II. Compensation and Benefits
1. The maximum duration for postdoctoral research fellows is 3 years. The initial salary for the first 2 years is 200,000-350,000 RMB/year. Renewal of employment and salary in the 2nd year or later will depend on research performance in the previous year.
2. During the postdoctoral period, encouragement and assistance will be provided to apply for programs such as the "Postdoctoral Innovation Talent Support Program," "Shanghai Super Postdoctoral Program," "China Postdoctoral Science Foundation," and "Shanghai Typhoon Research Foundation."
